Blu News – Another for April

Just time to fit in another announcement for next month. Eureka! in the UK have a dual format (DVD+Blu-ray) of Walter Hill’s classy fight drama Hard Times coming out on April 24.

The specs/features listed for this edition are:

  • New 4K digital restoration
  • Uncompressed PCM and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray
  • English subtitles for the deaf and hearing-impaired
  • A new interview with co-writer/director Walter Hill
  • A new interview with producer Lawrence Gordon
  • A new interview with composer Barry DeVorzon
  • Excerpts from a 1984 interview with Walter Hill at the National Film Theatre, London
  • Original theatrical trailer
  • A 20-PAGE BOOKLET featuring Pauline Kael’s original 1975 New Yorker review of the film, and archival imagery.

  1. Thanks Colin – been decades since I saw this but like many, I have always rated Hill very highly as a writer and director of Westerns and neo-noir. I wish his version of Hammett’s Red Harvest, LAST MAN STANDING had has been a bit as we would have had lot more Hill in the last 15 years!

    • Yes, he started off very strong and made some really fine movies but his output slowed considerably later on – still, what we have is so far contains some high quality material.

  2. Have my copy on order. Excited but would so love to see the missing fight that served as the second one in the film. Funny thing is the studio released a lobby card of it. The mistake in the film is having Coburn tell Pettibone that it’s their third time out yet we only ever see the first KO at the start of the film.
    Then again, the footage may already be lost. Either way, easily one of the best films of 75 and for all parties involved, a career highlight.
