Blu News – 2 for April

A couple of titles which have been mentioned before are now confirmed for dual format (BD + DVD) releases at the end of April in the UK via Powerhouse/Indicator. Firstly, we get Orson Welles’ The Lady from Shanghai, an enthralling film noir. And, in addition, Blake Edwards’ Experiment in Terror, which I wrote about here, makes an appearance.

  1. I’ve seen neither of these but will certainly preorder Shangai. Maybe Terror too. It seems to be a great year for catalogue releases (almost a shame as I’d hoped to cut back on buying discs this year). I’ve been eyeing a few other noir too- Pickup on South Street looks interesting.

    • Yes, there are plenty of interesting titles on the way. Pickup on South Street is marvelous – I wrote the film up here – and the very fine UK Blu-ray can usually be had at a good price in sales and so on. I’d also recommend Night and the City.

  2. I’m very much looking forward to Experiment in Terror. Although the old DVD is OK, this should be a very worthwhile upgrade for a great thriller. I’ve been very impressed with Indicator/Powerhouse based on what they’ve released so far.
    I already have the US (blu) release of Lady From Shanghai, so I’ll see what the reviews say before double-dipping on that one. There’s a good chance I’ll be tempted though!
